Prof. Thompson Publishes Article on Changing Border Regimes In Africa

September 21, 2021

Prof. Daniel Thompson and collaborators Kader Mohamoud and Jemal Yusuf Mahamed, both of the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Jigjiga University in Ethiopia, have published the article "Geopolitical boundaries and urban borderlands in an Ethiopian frontier city" in the journal Urban Geography.  Drawing on fieldwork in eastern Ethiopia and tracing connections between changing border regimes and urban landscapes, the researchers show how shifting meanings and enforcement practices at Ethiopia’s international and subnational borders reshaped the socio-spatial landscape of Jigjiga, the capital of Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State.
